RJ45 to RJ11 help required
from what i understand RJ45 is a Lan connection and has 8 wires. RJ11 is smaller and only has 4 wires.
If I have a device with RJ45 can I convert to somehow RJ11? macafee2 |

No, why would you want to?
RJ11 is for telecoms/ telephone. RJ45 is for LAN / network cables/ router connections.

bit of an update, my socket is RJ11 size, small and has 8 wires.
Plugging into it with the other end of the cable being an RJ45 socket and plugging an RJ45 lan cable into the hub does not give me internet. I think the RJ45 to RJ11 cable that I bought only has 4 wires at the RJ11 end. No Idea about the RJ45 end. The house I have just got has a bank of 6 RJ45 sockets and in places around the house there are I thought RJ11 sockets. Plug into an RJ11 then from the bank of RJ45 into the hub and hay presto internet... or so I thought. So it seems I may want RJ45 8 wire plug to RJ11 8 wire plug. Not sure what the difference is between cat 5 and telephone wire. can I get 8 wire Lan/RJ45 plug to RJ11 8 wire plug ? mcafee2 |

RJ11 supports a maximum of 6 wires/pins, but the middle four are the only ones normally used. They are the plug which normally plugs into the phone end of the flexible phone lead for telecoms, it is also the type of plug which feeds the broadband telephone wire into routers. The other four ports on a router, the LAN ports, are RJ45.

Is this the answer? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Longsw-Netw...a-780656214928
That way I have RJ45 at my appliance, at the wall by the appliance, at the bank of outlets by the hub and the hub. macafee2 |

An RJ61 plug takes 8 cables which I think is the same size plug as an RJ11.

You should check again that your rj11 jack has the 8 cables connected, because as far as I'm aware it has a max of 6 pinout.
