Unhappy We are together again!!!

Hello all!

I have been reunited with my beloved Navy ZT CDTi after 3 months at the garage. It started early Nov 06 after owning her for just two weeks, a low milage beautiful specimen.

The entertainment system started intermittently switching on and off, then the TV option left me, a little while later, the tuner left, followed swiftly by poor audio delivery.......that was only the start!!

The reverse sensor system stopped, followed by indicators having a mind of their own whilst driving along. This all ended with the alarm and battery quitting completely, ending with a completely parked car and one very unhappy owner!!!

So with the car eventually booked in with REAL mechanics (after a real saga with the original garage that sold me the car!) They found that the entire boot well and entertainment system were swimming in water and for quite a while. This was due to the rear light clusters letting in water!! The result £3,300.00 of entertainment system including Sat Nav and new wiring looms and completely new carpets throughout. However, now it has returned, I wish to further improve the system.....sorry guys, honest I do appreciate your hard work, I do!. However, the sound quality is still awful and I am informed that if I install a decent amp and upgrade the speakers, this will greatly improve the system. So please, can anyone assist me with advice on this proceedure, without defacing the doors or introducing further problems to my brand new wiring and audio system. It has, I am informed a high Sat Nav with a quality 6 disc changer fitted in the glove box, it is just that the audio is extremely poor

in hope.....Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Glad you have your car back and all your faults have been fixed for good.

I'll move this in to the ICE section for you as you should get more help in there.

Its the Poor quality speakers used and the Baffles they are mounted to. There is a "How To" im sure on this, I will search later. Also as no subwoofer is installed as standard (unless you have the HK amp & upgraded speakers) that hits the Bass end to. But easiest steps is to change the Door Speakers but more Important are those cheap and nasty Plastic Baffles need to be replaced with a MDF or other material. A lot of work but end results well worth it.

I think TiRich did a how-to on this a couple of years back with photos of custom made baffles etc?

I must admit to using said how-to for getting the door cards off to service my dodgy locks so one how-to has a good few of uses

Default Thanks Guys

I have since had a few decent runs in my beautiful Navy ZT and I must say, I remember why I purchased her in the first place!!!

Thank you for your comments and suggestions, I am going to replace the speakers in the doors, and casings...somehow, along with perhaps introducing a subwoofer and/or a decent AMP.

I am also told that I can exchange the existing Alpine Multi CD unit for an IPOD docking unit, by means of introducing a small connector to allow for this marriage. This apparently will only be displayed via the tuner display.

So thank you again and glad to have her back.

You will find that (unless your in to Drum and Bass) a amp is not needed. A good head unit, Good componet speakers in MDF mounts are all you need.

Just thought - as you have the built in Sat-NAv changing the head unit is not an option. Therefore I would suggest that you fit component speakers with a high sensitivity (above 93db) in proper MDF mounts. The front and back will take about 6 hours to do and will cost about £10 in MDF.

If the head unit can drive them OK then don't bother with the amp - it's a lot of trouble. if they struggle then you will have to fit an amp.

Anyone can have a listen to mine on the 18th if they want - it's money well spent!

Here is a picture of the fronts which are more difficult to do.

So allow about £200 in total for the upgrade and you will be well happy.

Much Better than those Plastic Mounts. Did you Break the Plastic Protector sheet at back to use whole door area for improved Bass?
