Antique tape deck
OK, I have a cassette player in the car, would love a CD player but have no idea what's it's called, where to get one, can I get anyone and buy a Rover facia for the top...........my head hurts.
But in the meatime, I have a tape stuck in the player, when I push the buttons it's just not ejecting far enough for me to get my perfectly manicured nails around it to pull it out. So I'm stuck with the same tape or the radio. Any suggestions?

If you have an orginal Rover-fitted tape deck then you can probably get a CD changer to fit to it. A bit fiddly to do with manicured nails but you will need an aditional wiring loom plus CD changer and a few tools plus about half hours work. OR You can buy an aftermarked CD player to fit in place of your Rover tape deck. This is probably simpler but will also involve buying an adapter cable and getting one of those fascia adapters. It depends on what you want... Do you want to keep the original looks of the interior or would you like a change to something else? |

Just noticed....
From your signature picture... you have a Harmony orignal Rover radio. A conversion to include a CD changer is possible. Fitting instructions are provided here http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...hread.php?t=34 if you're interested...? |

Thank you Simon, I shall keep a mental note of that thread for future reference. How much will the ingredients cost? Just roughly?
As for the current stuck tape, 2 of us have tried to get it out, one pushing the buttons, the other trying to grab the tape, and then swopping around, the other pushing, the other pulling, all to no avail. I might try with my eyebrow tweezers.

My god! You're a woman, therefore must own a handbag or 50, at least one HAS to contain a nail file if not all of them If you eject the tape, use the file to try and lever tape out, sometimes teh mechanism goes slack and doesn't have the oomph left to push cassette out far enough, and a little helping hand is needed. Don't force it though, as there is a risk something could snap.

Does anyone know would the Rover 75 CD80 unit be a straight swap? These FM/AM CD Players are very cheap on EBay now and could help the Lady out.

From eBay, a OEM CD changer would cost circa £40-60.
The wiring loom is the expensive bit and from X-Part they can cost circa £40 I managed to get one (different part number, but similar function for my headunit) for the bargain price of £15 from ebay. eBay/breakers yards are the best bet for bargains on that front. As for stuck tape - it could be part of the mechanism has become jammed and therefore preventing the tape from ejecting. The last time this happened to me was an old portable tape player and the only way to remove the tape was dismantelling the unit to remove the tape from the mechanism. Being somewhat 'less dismantlable' your tape may be in for some torture before it becomes free. Try not to pull too hard for fear of creating more damage. Shine a light to see if anything is jamming it. Try inserting it again, fast forward all the way and then rewind completely to see if that frees it up. If you're still stuck then it may need surgery.... |
