I agree with you. Problem is, though, you don't know it is right to start with.
That's why you have an overflow. Takes away any room for error.

My thinking was if it was the first change at 60k so not touched from as it left the factory then the level should be correct??

So measure exactly what comes out and put exactly that back in.

It would of course be different if you had a leak but for a routine change I would be happy this way.

Keith,
RAVE, Automatic Gearbox - JATCO, 44-34 gives the resistance of the fluid temperature sensor from -40 to 140 degrees C. at 20 degree intervals. That would suffice wouldn't it?
