There will be huge upheaval in the coming years for the legacy auto makers especially VAG, They have tens of thousands of skilled technicians in a internal combustion engine industry that will be gone within a generation.
The threats facing the German car industry in particular will be massive. Their engineering expertise that has set them apart from other car makers will continue to wane as Tesla is outselling Mercedes & BMW in the USA for the first time ever. Up until now Mercedes & VW have only been making compliance car models in small numbers to keep the EU emissions people off their backs. The other legacy car makers who haven't already started producing BEV's will be in the brown stuff pretty soon as lithium ion batteries are already becoming scarce in the numbers needed for mass production by the established BEV manufacturers. Where are they going to get the batteries from? China has bought up Africa and South America for lithium for their massive BEV manufacturing. Scary & exciting times ahead for sure.
