Smile Non starting CDTI, Big Russ & the solution

Earlier this year my CDTI would not start and was towed away to my local garage. They could not find anything wrong with it and eventually they got it to start OK.

End of Sept I am doing a 280 mile trip to go on holiday to N. Devon. I was loaded up with 3 adults, 2 dogs and luggage and got 400 yds down the road and had to make an emergency stop because of someone speeding over a hump back bridge. Unfortunately I stalled the car and it would not restart.
Again the garage could not get to the source of the problem.

So I sent the ECU, immobilizer and 2 keys to Big Russ. I have never met him but he was so helpful and knowledgeable. Extensive testing proved that they were not the problem.

Russ's suggestion, because of previous experiences, was to unbolt the under the bonnet fuse box and remove each plug in turn and either use contact cleaner or push them in and out a couple of times to clean the contacts. Car then started first time!!

Thanks to Big Russ and other members of the forum that keep our cars on the road.

Probably was the same fault, at a guess, lack of power to the CAN-bus (white/yellow/red wire) by Fuse 2, associated connectors, et al in the engine fusebox, leading to complete shutdown, and failure to restart.

Car now running, sweet as a nut.

If there is an FAQ on engines not starting, perhaps this ought to be added.

Moderator how about it ???? Maybe keep a log of how often it is reported
