Default Good towcar

Just come back from a week away with the caravan, we did 260 miles in total, plus the 150 to come home. I filled up before leaving 41 litres from just under half full, on the way down ,we had a bit of a headwind, so had to drop to 4th gear a canny few times, but on the return it pulled all the way up the M6 with only the occasional drop to 4th. Working out the sums, I think I got 28.3 mpg with a loaded caravan in tow, which is miles better than what I got with my old 1.8 petrol Mondeo, that I had before the Rover. Well pleased.

Welcome back Richard
I did a total of 1371 miles in July, 710 of which were with the caravan on the back - total average mpg over that was 38 across 4 fill ups, varying from 32 when it was nearly all towing, to 45 when there was very little towing - and there were a few 3rd gear climbs up the A9 included in those figures! (mind you, the long run down the other side on a trailing throttle probably helped the figures a bit too!)
The economy will improve even further now 'cos I've finally fitted my new door mirrors which you sourced for me and they are much more aerodynamic than the previous ones - better to look at too!

Our cars tow so effortlessly,I just keep looking in the mirrors to check if the caravan is still there.

Towed over 1000 miles this year already with another 300 miles to do in Sept.

Who needs a chelsea tractor?

Too bl00dy right mate.
The site we stayed on last week was divided into bays of 10/12, in our section, there was 0ne transit van, a motorhome, and the rest were 4x4s with the exception of us. poor fuel consumption, expensive tyres, extortionate ved? nah, they can keep 'em , I'll stick wi me comfy saloon car

Filled up again at the weekend, before our current break, this time took 33 litres, after doing the sums I got 34.8 mpg with the caravan in tow last time.

I tow an old (18yrs) abbey gts.
It's about 1400kg loaded.

The car thinks there's nothing on the back and I get around 30mpg towing. About 38-40mpg normal driving so I'm well pleased.
