To be honest, if you really want a 75 V8, I would suggest you may have to forget about the plate. Bear in mind that there are fewer than 200 in existence, and any that have not already been registered absolutely have to be registered by the end of February. Members on here and on two-sixties.com have been very dilligent in keeping an eye out for any that are for sale, and whilst there have been a reasonable number of unregistered 260s coming up for sale, I certainly can't remember the last 75 V8 I saw. In short, if you've not found one by now, I think it's highly unlikely that you will Which is more important? The car or the plate? Could you get the same plate on an earlier year, or does the 06 actually make up part of the plate you want?

Thanks Womble. My original post was to ask whether there were any R75 V8's registered on a 06 or 56 plate, not necessarily whether ther were any for sale. I own PC06GAN as a plate and I need a car the right age to put it on. I am prepared to wait for the right age car to come up for sale providing one exists. Does anyone know an easy way to find out?

Not quite sure how the VIN sequence works in this regard but from the data i have there are three options for the 9th letter (transmission and steering)
Up until reading this thread i had assumed that they related to right hand drive and left hand drive (all manuals), but i note from the pictures of VIN 000007 that it is left hand drive, but has the same 9th VIN letter as my right hand drive car and with the positng above about the automatic 260s in Australia i am now thinking the letter relates to the gearbox rather than the side the steering wheel is on. On this basis i reckon: 9th letter of VIN sequence = C This is VIN 000001, the XP500 and is therefore likely to be a one off. 9th letter of VIN sequence = B This relates to the majority of cars, including mine, so i assume it means Tremec 6350 manual gearbox 9th letter of VIN sequence = N There are a few of these, i am assuming that this means an automatic gearbox. Based on the above assumption, here are the VINs of automatic 260s: 000012 000013 000014 000015 000161 000186 000190 000210 000215 000217 Sadly i don't have all the VIN numbers for all 833 cars made, but the above covers all the Mark 1 cars.

No idea Phil, but suspect your car went down the production line as an MG and was then pulled from the line at a point after it was given it's VIN sequence and refitted as one of the early R75s (including auto-box). This would explain the VIN anomaly, but i admit i am clutching at straws a bit here, my posting above is a supposition based upon the VIN evidence i have to hand, and now i am trying to make the facts fit the supposition which isn't a very smart thing to do!
