My Tourer Reversing warning system doesn't beep
People,
Like it says in the title, the reversing warning system in my '04 Tourer doesn't beep - not when I first select Reverse, nor when I reverse pretty close to something. I couldn't see any fuse that seemed to relate to this system in the fuse under the glovebox (but then it's not the most user-friendly place) but I assume there would be one. Does anyone have any insight into which one, or should I just look harder? Or is there another problem here? Would a battery disconnect reset it all? Etc etc Roger |

1/ The sounder - which I think is fitted in the boot area on a Tourer. This may have become dissonnected or failed. 2/ Control box fitted behind the boot area trim on RHS. Black box on a bracket ( or may be stuck to side). This will be difficult to diagnose, unless the control cable plug (black one) as become detached, although this is unlikely as it has special catches on it. As you are NOT hearing the initial beep, it is unlikely to be a fault with the sensors. The control box gets it's power and signals from a main cable attached to the black plug on the box. The power comes I think from fuse 2 in the passenger footwell fusebox. That is 10 amps, and supplies other things, but check it anyway. The only othe possibility is the reverse signal itself. So make sure your reverse lamps are on. If is is none of these, then the PDC box is probably dead. You can get a new one from SMC (Ebay) for £15. Colin |

I thought the usual culprit was the switch on the gearbox. Quick check I understand is whether the reversing lights work, as the same switch controls both.
I bought a new switch at very modest cost, but as yet not fitted it, as it all started working again. In fact as it's less than a tenner, I think I'd buy and fit a new one anyway, just to eliminate that as the cause. HTH Malcolm. Last edited by baxlin; 9th December 2007 at 11:53.. |

Malcolm and Colin,
Many thanks - one or two things to ponder over and look for. It's 2300 here at the moment so I'll try tomorrow. Roger |

If your reverse lights don't come on when it doesn't beep, 99% it's the switch.
About £6 here and 10 minutes to fit.

The reversing lights come on OK, so I've got a bit of delving to do.
Thanks to all. |

Nope, reverse lights come on every time, engine running or not, but the beeper never does.
Checked the fuse (crikey, that's an 'interesting' fuse box!) which was OK, so I'll now follow Colin's trail above. But not before the weekend now. Will my Rover garage be able to diagnose it if I can't? Does it show up in a computer diagnosis? |
