Mine was the same at the start of the summer (check the fluid, mine was turning white!) have since changed the fluid and on the other back caliper when I was draining it, what looked like vaseline came out! (big difference now it's all new). Was told at the time that the fluid was going off which was causing a wee bit of rust, so causing the sticky caliper.

Agreed 7mm allen piece. I spent Friday afternoon checking my brakes. New pads on the back calipers (aren't they small?) and removed the fronts, cleaned the calipers and replaced the pads (7mm material left - 2mm is the minimum in Haynes). Pushed the old fluid through and just about finished by the time it got dark.
Unfortunately, I tried to save the wear sensors, but they both fell apart when I removed them so the light on the dash is still on until I get new ones. |

Same here!!, easy fix though. Strip the wires off each sensor and twist the wires together (remember to insulate them with black tape to stem the rot in the wire for the meantime). Gets the light off and easy enough when you get back to re-fitting new ones

The guide pins are often a bit too tight for a standard Allen key. The keys tend to twist and the back of the caliper is a good place to take skin off your knuckles. You can get the 7mm Allens with a substantial right angled handle, specially made for calipers. Recommended.

I used the type of hex driver from Halfords that are permanently fitted in a socket so you simply use a 3/8" ratchet. I have a variety of differing sizes for engine work in the past. They are about £4-5 a time, and it means you can use a torque spanner to torque the guide pins up correctly.
