My records date from purchase date 29/11/03 to last Friday evening in Calais.
Over that period and 111860 miles I have averaged 42.47 mpg. the car is a ZTT 2.0 CDTi manual with the factory upgrade to 131 bhp.
At present the car does 1500 miles every 3 months over a two week period in France and the rest is weekend use locally. At present running cool which I think is a failed thermostat to be attended to. I find weight, rooftop items and high cruising speed all affect consumption markedly as one would expect.
Everybodys driving style is different which reflects in varied consumption levels, I look slightly askance at claims of 50 mpg plus.
I have always kept a tag on mpg (sad I know). I do it for something to do, and as been said in another post, soon know if something is amiss. We go to France, Loire area quite regularly. Last year did around 1700 miles and averaged 52 plus mpg. We cruise around average 80 mph while on m/ way. Four up and a full boot, and I mean a full boot. I agree that the way you drive contributes to your mpg. I do not accelerate hard, don't see the need when you are going 500 or more miles on a motorway. I employ the same strategy when on main roads. Smooth and gentle is the kindest to both car and passengers.

I can get over 60mpg out of a 2.5 litre V6.

When I refuel and re-set the computer it is easily achievable, as I normally fill up in Shaftesbury (about 650ft above sea level) and cruise down the hills.
The trouble is when I go back up it drops to about 27mpg.

My last 75 was a diesel and, like the V6, I seem to get the figures as per the book. On the diesel it as nowhere near some of the claims made on here.

Yes, I am sad too and log the fuel and mileage on an excel spreadsheet.
Forget one off trips and what the computer says (unless you recalibrate it) and log it for a year or two.
That will tell the real story.
