Potential rust problem?
Today I was cleaning around the door and boot seals of general dirt 'n' dust that accumulates and noticed that where the two edges (corners) of the boot meet the rear screen seal were showing signs of worn paint at the underside of the edge that had gone through to the primer!
An area that will need sorting fairly soon I would imagine. Don't know if this is a common problem but thought I would mention it. Appears to be a relatively easy fix with a touch up brush as the final finish is largely hidden so would save on an expensive professional repaint. |

It's a known area, also right in the corner, is a potential water leak spot under the seal

Mine has gone through to the primer so will require attention asap but as said ... think it will be a relatively easy fix.
Got me searching all over the car for any other potential 'rubbing' spots. Slight paranoia taking hold! haha. |

Plenty of rubbing spots on rubber hoses and AC pipes as well if you search.

Where the bonnet sound deadening meets the aircon pipe also needs sorting, ie, tape the pipe, or cut a hole in the liner

You can also drill a few holes in the bracing under the skin of the bonnet, and use small screws with a washer on to hold the insulation up off the aircon pipe and the pipe on the underbonnet pump,if fitted.

Edge strip
As regards the Boot Corner problem this seems quite common and I have experience of it. Apart from removing the rust and treating eg Rust killer / converter plus repaint on the corner I also :-
1 - adjusted the boot to slightly remove from the edge below the window 2 - ran a strip of Door Edging along the entire boot edge below the window. It looks perfectly ok. As regards the Bonnet , I have applied Cavity wax along front , rear and side edges as well as spaces above the engine - all done in height of Summer). One thing that does concern me is the enormous amount of condensation I have recently found both underside of bonnet and soaking the liner. Anyone any observations. All the treatments above applied to each of my 3 X75's |

I think the condensation issue is probably more to do with freezing temps outside and a nice warm engine.. the under bonnet sound deadening is perfect for soaking up moisture so it's inevitable really. After I've corrected the minor paint blemish on the corners of the boot I think I'm going to use a thin strip of clear vinyl between the boot and the sealing rubber and see how that goes. |
