Default Brake Sensor

The brake pad sensor warning came on in my Rov75 1.8 T 2004, so as the weather was non wet for a change I decided to check the pads, they had plenty of life left on them, so cleaned the sensors and contacts, but the lightis still on, any Ideas why?

Thanks

Did you check both sensors? There's one each for the front and rear pads and they are both on the offside of the car.

The circuit has to have continuity so will alarm if either sensor wears through, or there is a break in the wiring or bad plug connection.

Mike checked both wheels and cleaned up the contacts etc, looks like there is a break somewhere, just have to find it now.

thanks

The brake sensor system is designed to give 'ample' warning of pad wear. You can typically get many hundreds, maybe a thousand or even more miles of further use. The idea is that it tells you to be aware that the brakes will require servicing in the near future. Exactly what 'near future' means will depend on how hard you drive your car.

Nice one. That's the most sensible and safest explanation of that issue I have heard.
