Would a mandatory retest have picked up on poor eyesight? Until we know how he ended up going the wrong way on the m40 we haven't got the first clue whether any of the good intentions above would have prevented it or not. |

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...shire-45878215 Sadly as there are fatalities, including the caravanners it seems unlikely that the reasons will ever really be known. Having been a passenger in a car that was driven on the wrong side of a road in a town, for a short distance at about 20mph, I was quite worried until the driver was told he and got back out of the way of oncoming traffic. The driver said after he thought it was a double lane one way street . I don't really want yo imagine what this must have been like for anyone involved, especially at motorway speeds, totally horrifying. What has been said previously about retests, eye tests, roadworthiness , reactions etc, would surely go some way to preventing this sort of thing happening? |

Interesting thread..my only comment would be the current driving test is not good enough and some folk are passing by fluke..I don't put anyone in for test unless I'm sure they are ready.

Sadly it is only a test and new drivers are taught to pass that test, its only then they can start learning to drive. Thirty years on and I am still learning.

What has recently come into force though, is a half points system. If you gathered 6 points or more, whilst driving with an R plate in force, you would lose your licence and have to resit your test. Or you can have you restriction extended beyond the one year. Sent from my SM-A600FN using Tapatalk
