Decided to investigate the intermittent abs crunch on the tourer after the n/s/r handbrake shoes fell apart the other week . The ABS light was staying off so I stripped the brake and pulled off the wheel bearing which is still doing sterling work at nearly 204,000 miles and was fitted on the production line. It slid off easily with a wiggle and the fault was found to be a small flake of rust stuck to the magnetic ring.
A good clean up of the bearing and backplate along with a bit of rust treatment and all was fitted back together with the new Rimmer Bros. supplied bolts to fit the pad carrier and a road test was next. A 60 mile run about using the car today and all is perfect again |

Decided to see if the 2.5 would start after standing since before Christmas outside. Uncovered the windscreen, opened the door, put key in ignition, turned key, and away she went, much to my surprise.I had covered the engine with a very thick old coat, and fitted it over the battery, so perhaps that helped. Ran it for 45 minutes, revs between tick over and 3,000rpm. I think she is asking to be put back on the road.

Battery issues sorted...
After the battery died during the new year's sleep, I replaced it with a new one and added a disconnect knob to it as well: works as expected
Need to make up my mind about what else to do until spring time... (new bulbs maybe) |

forgot to mention...
... the infamous "bonnet opening cable splitter box": I attached it to the body using a plastic cable

Yes i would remove that cable, because if you need to get the box off the inner wing you will have trouble.

Thanks for the hint!
I thought about it as well and came up with attaching it via a "re-usable plastic cable" from my local super market: that can be detached/loosened if needed without a knife or scissors...
I will let you know if it loosens by itself or stays there to keep a grep of the box as intended... |

Replaced the other ABS sensor on the X3. No more dashboard lights, and a buttery smooth driving experience.
Amazing what a fifty quid part can do.

I once spent a Friday evening battling with a similar modification that one of my customers had carried out. His theory behind it made perfect sense, but he made the mistake of shutting the bonnet & couldn’t get it open again. It wouldn’t be so bad but it was torrential rain & very strong wind, so it wasn’t pleasant. I don’t recall the reason getting the bonnet open again was so urgent, but it must have been for me to brave the weather to do that |

.... That's actually the only thing that really scares me 'bout my 75: Bonnet cable issue... In case there's a real once-for-all-times-safe-how-to-solution here on the forum, please give me a hint!
