Default Heating!!!

Simultaneously, I have three problems that might be related to each other, or might not.
  1. The exterior temperature is said to be over 33C even though when I first noticed it, it was probably -5C outside!
  2. The internal heater only provides heat when set to over 27C. There maybe a slight imbalance between passenger and driver vents, but not significant.
  3. The ATC diagnostics shows fault code 22 i.e. Sunlight sensor problem.
My plan of action is to:

Easier Jobs
  1. Replace exterior temperature sensor. I bought one today from eBay for £10.00. It seemed too good to miss.
  2. Replace cabin sun sensor. Does anyone know where you can buy such a thing?
Difficult Job
  1. Clean out matrix.
Does anyone have any thoughts on sun sensor, alternative suggestions or even general comments?

Thanks

Colin

Was it daylight when you ran the atc diagnostics? The sunlight sensor need sunlight / bright day to operate.
External temperature sensor may reset with a battery off reboot. Even so changing it, it will still take a while to show the correct temperature.
Heat is not produced through the dash vents on my car only windscreen, footwell and under seat rear.

Default Heating!!

Thanks for the swift response.

Bright days are in short supply at the moment but I will certainly redo the ATC diagnostics when the day is at its brightest.

Sorry to be a complete dimbo, but what do you mean by a 'battery off reboot'?

I will also check for heat in the places that you suggest.

Again thanks for your help.

The vehicles electronics are controlled by the ECU and BCU computers. Disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes allows for a reboot of the computers, much the same as your home computer needs restarting if it has a minor problem.
Make sure you observe correct shut down procedure for sat nav if installed and radio code if necessary.

If you go down the line of new sun sensor i've got one you can have, needlessly changed mine when it was the matrix, PM me your address and i'll post it of to you. A good touch or spot light should do if you have no decent sunlight.

If the outside temperature sensor is reading high, it might be a short on the wiring.

The sunlight sensor relies on infra red, rather than visible light. A nice warm torch should work, but certainly not an LED one. Never heard of one failing but I have seen them for sale on the bay of fleas.

Hi Colin. My car delivers heat through its chest level vents? I can turn the heat off by using the scroll wheel under the middle ones, but they will certainly deliver heat when required. (on a good day!).

I think you have a poor-loose connection on the outside sensor, as for a sunlight reading, this is England in the winter, so why does that worry or surprise you? heh heh..

If the heat is about the same both sides why bother to do the matrix? Personally I would leave that job till summer gets here, then do it at your leisure one balmy summer evening..

Having just read the handbook I see that it is possible if you fiddle with all the knobs and buttons. I always leave mine on 21º-23º Auto or Econ. default setting. That's why. I find it comfortable on those settings all year round.

The automatic temperature control (ATC) system doesn't actually work in 'Econ' mode. The A/C compressor is turned off and the system simply works like an old fashioned heater. The temperature of the air is determined by the temperature of the coolant and all you get to moderate is airflow rate. My cab often gets too warm in 'Econ' and changing the individual temperature settings is ineffective.
