Mixed tyre sizes ?
Quick question for those who know ! If one front tyre is 185/55/15 , is it illegal for the other front to be 195/55/15 ? This came about on my wife's 416 after fitting a non original spare . I understand about the rolling radius etc , just need to know if it will get through an MOT ?

If they spot it, they will fail it.
I guess you probably know this already but its a very risky thing to do, the car will not handle, corner or drive correctly...I know times are hard at the moment, but its better to be safe than sorry...change the tyre, please...change the tyre

If you had a Police Vehicle check you would get a Ticket and three points.

Afraid not,
A Space-saver is a designated tyre for emergency use only, up to the designated mileage stated for tyre. A miss sized tyre/wheel is an offence outside that parameter. The fixed Penalty is about £80 i believe. Not sure what would happen if you had no spare on board, Officers discretion perhaps. Also should be an Automatic MOT failure. Unless someone wants to test it in court. |

A space saver is also limited in speed.
The scenario here would be such that there would be differing amounts of friction / grip for a given area. If memory serves me correctly it is illegal to have two different tread patterns on an axle. Do not mess with tyres, they are the things that mean you either stop safely or you vere (how do you spell it eek) off course and in to who knows what. Paul |

If your a bit skint at the moment go for a part worn for the MOT at least. As stated earlier, your risking your life as well as 3 points!! ... for a £20 tyre.
Your diff will be suffering aswell with one wheel going faster than the other all the time, honestly, take the advice on here and change that tyre. |
