Heater matrix issue...
The dash vents are blowing different temperatures on each side, even when the temp is set equal. Reading through a few threads about this I understand that the matrix may be partally blocked. Is this likley on an 04 40k? How easy is it to clear out? Can it be done in situ? Where is the matrix? What is the answer to life? Yea, I know, 42

The heater matrix is located to the left side of the central consul in the driver's footwell. Reading through Mr Haynes' manual, it seems a fairly straight forward job to remove, but requires a cooling system drain down of course. I've also wondered about the ease of back-flushing the matrix without removing it. There are inlet and outlet pipes on the side which have O-ring sealed joints. Whether hosepipes could be connected effectively to these pipes is the question. Potentially, it sounds like a good way to flood the interior.
A silted up matrix on an 04 seems unlikely to me, especially since it will no doubt contain OAT mixture which should protect against such events. Maybe there's another factor in matrix silting. It does seem to be a pretty common thing. Could there be an air bubble trapped in it? TC Last edited by T-Cut; 9th January 2009 at 11:12.. |
