My oil cooler did have some flow but no way near what I would call normal, hence Tulhe coolant backing up into The expansion tank. Using the on board diagnostic my car was still running at 90 - 93. Since sorting the problem I do have to say the heater is hotter.

IOW if the oil cooler is totally blocked, then there is no flow through the radiator.
Correct.

The 100 per cent makes no sense, as if the cooler is blocked, then the flow in the radiator stops, there is effectively no cooling ...
Kaiser; ask yourself how any part of the cooling system could become totally blocked. There's only one answer: the addition of those dreadful leak-sealing additives. If the car is properly serviced and maintained, and any coolant leaks identified and repaired by component renewal, then there is no reason why the oil cooler, or any other part of the cooling system, can become blocked. So MGR's design is, in my view, perfectly reasonable.

That can't be, the oil cooler must be on a parallel path to the main flow. That, at least is my guess. Would be happier to see a diagramme.!
I have the official MGR diagram and I have told you what it shows. As you don't believe me, try the Rimmer's website.
Also, do you know of any engine which has an oil cooler with a by-pass?

If you have the diagram Simon, post it.

You should be aware that that would contravene club rules. The copyright of RAVE is still held by X-Part.

Anyway, you have a KV6 in your fleet, why don't you just look under the bonnet?

Simon, sorry for such a long time to reply. Life got in the way.

Quite, simply I ensure the cooling system bypassed the oil cooler completely. The oil cooler on my car is essentially air cooled now.

I have a theory that at some point my car had an overheating problem and that someone filled the cooling system up with bodge it juice when it was hot. Most of the stuff found its permanent lodgings in the oil cooler galleries because it was the hottest place and caused the blocking.

I have had no ill effects of the bypassing and have recently posted a quite surprising find regarding the thermostat.

I'm not going to play with the cooler now for the sake of it.

I've found your other thread and that is the worst (and most stupid) bodge I have ever seen! Thanks for taking the trouble to update us. Now you can see how difficult it sometimes is to diagnose faults at the other end of a keyboard! Well done for finding the cause. Maybe your oil cooler is not to blame at all?

But whats your normal engine temperature, Is it stii dropping to 60c with motorway driving?
it yes then you still need to change your thermostat, the temperature should stay around 88-92c.

I have, and you are wrong.
The main flow is from the pump to the radiator and from the radiator to the thermostat. The off take for the oil cooler and the water heater are branches off the main lines.
The heater and the oil cooler can thus be totally blocked, and the engine will still receive cooling from the radiator

Yet another example of how your V6 appears to be built completely differently to everyone else's.
