Why would you not want an auto? Its a bit like choosing to do the washing up, or having a dishwasher/wife to do it for you.

I really don't like manuals in 75s, I've decided, and this is as someone who's done a lot of miles behind the wheel of a manual V6 75. It doesn't suit the car very well, and, to my mind, isn't a terribly good box. I much prefer an auto, in a 75. It just works beautifully with the 2.5, and the diesel.

I have a diesel and V6 75, and a diesel and V6 ZT, and the one thing they have in common is that they are all Automatic. The box suits the car, and you can always drive them as a manual without the hassle of a clutch. The ZT is not just a clone of the 75, it has been set up as a sports saloon, and still reacts so in automatic form, although I do use the sport button more because you can throw it around that bit quicker!

Seriously though, with all the traffic on the road it makes life so much easier. You are more relaxed, especially in a traffic jam. None of that constant stop start and clutch control. No need to worry about rolling back on a hill either. You simply stop and go.
And besides, most large executive cars are auto. Imagine a manual Mercedes E-class, or a manual Jaguar, or Rolls Royce even!

I'm now thinking the same, after driving the wife's S Type jag around Cornwall I'm thinking of maybe changing mine!

Auto every time.

The 75 is well suited to the Auto box.

Just put the car in D and leave it until you reach your destination.

Automatic is the best choice for many. I prefer it myself. In the Diesel, the torque converter takes out a lot of the roughness of the Diesel. In the manual the DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) is supposed to do that. The DMF is a weak spot on the car in any case, cumbersome and expensive to replace, and I think very few people that have had an automatic would go back to a manual.
I certainly would not.
