Default Rover 3500 lighter 1977 "Car of the Year"

My Father in law was presented with one of these.

It is a beautiful thing - even tho' I do not smoke.

Anybody know anything about these? Are they rare?

Given the EU debate - interesting that this item has the Six (yes - just 6!) EEC members flags

I'd say quite rare given the subject matter.

That is such a lovely thing and I would agree, very rare.

It would appeal to Rover enthusiasts and all collectors of smoking memorabilia of which there are many.

Pity it's not a Dunhill lighter as they have a huge following but Ronson are a good make.

Certainly one to treasure in my opinion.

There are many collectors of smoking memorabilia, and the Rover 3500 lighter looks to be a very attractive piece indeed. It is a pretty rare item and being "Mint in Box", would have a strong appeal to a collector. Definitely something to be either displayed, or put away safely.

My own collection is mainly warships and submarines that visited the Falkland Islands, plus a few military units. My favourite though is a Zippo made for the Falkland Islands Police. Only 50 were ever made, and shortly after that they became the Royal Falkland Islands Police, making it very rare. The square details box on the rear is actually chrome, but it does not show well in the picture.

As the Car of the Year 1977, the Rover lighter is well worth holding on to.

It's not refering to the EU with those 6 flags. It refers to the countires from which the motoring journalists were drawn to vote for the cars each year. Needless to say it was mailny French and Italian cars that won! A bit like the Eurovision song contest. We hardly win it now!

As a piece of motoring history it is probably desirable and is to me as a bit of a collector.

I've got an old Autocar magazine featuring this Rover. You can have it if you want. It goes with the lighter...

Gratis!

What a star you are !!! - Yes please..

I also have a nice piece of Jaguar Memorabilia - it is a Jaguar bonnet motif (the leaping "cat"/Jaguar) - unchromed - just in brass mounted on a very nice wood box with a little drawer.

The story behind it is that Jaguar apprentices made them to hone their skills and they were then sold or presented to visiting Jaguar Dealers. My FiL was on the board of Dutton Forshaw and then Wadham Stringer.

So I expect he got it on one of his regular trips to the factory.

What I like about it in particular is that in the drawer are what I think are Olive sticks made of brass and aluminium which have the Jaguar "cat" stamped on the ends.

I found it stuffed in a cupboard with the Rover Ronson Lighter after he died.

I will post some pics
