Always loved the Z650, the proportions were near perfect and always destined to become a true classic. Yours looks an absolute peach, credit to you for the rebuild, 1st class job and in the best colour too.
I always hankered after a Z900 but whenever I was in a position (financially) to buy one something would crop up to relieve me of my hard earned (family / mortgage / car etc
Years have gone by and I've been through 57 bikes and still no sign of Z900 ownership! I think unseen forces are conspiring against me.

Now that is a real beauty. I had a KH250 triple and the Z650/Z1000 were my dream bikes. Never actually got either of them but I do ride a Vulcan VN750.

'78 CB125T, followed by an '76 RD250, then a '81 CX500 "plastic maggot".........followed a '77 CB750 "four" (mistake) and a Yamaha XT600 "plastic horse"

Then I dabbled with a '65 Royal Enfield Continental GT, quickly got bored with that, and bought a '86 Stan Stevens tuned RG500 Gamma

The last bike I had was a '92 FZR1000 Exup before deciding that I was likely to end up in a zillion bits, as I never really recovered my confidence after a SMIDSY incident

I still own the CB125T which I kept as a winter bike........last used in 1995

Best not to mention any dabbling with scooters though, said the bloke who owned a PX200E with an RD350LC motor lobbed in

Danger danger !!!

1st to second, second to third, third to forth, forth to fifth and finally fifth to 6th.
That's 2 more then an old British bike but I take your point, yours has the grunt to pull in top from 20mph but normal riding I'd expect you to change gear on the way from 20 to "70" but it is the grunt to be able to pull from 20 to "70" that I like. Not only that, it may not run out of puff on the way and gets to "70" with relative ease.

Mate of mine had a KH. I was following him one day when something whistled past my head WTF was that! He pulled into the side of the road . . . . missing an exhaust baffle, that was what just missed me!

You were lucky to have spotted that baffle in the clouds of smoke.

A mate of mine had a KH400, I kind of miss the smell of those howling triples.

But if a person is going to have baffle mounted on their head, one from a Kawasaki triple is an excellent choice!

Kawasaki triples have their own smell, no other 2 stroke has their particular odour. I've regretted selling my H2 every day, but I do know where there's a basket case H1E ready to fill a corner of my garage, next year I'll have the time to start resurrecting it.

When the Yamaha LCs came out they could eat Kawa triples for breakfast.
Love the Kawa Z range!

Although I rode a quite a few 2 stroke triples, I never actually owned one.

The only Kawasaki that I owned was a silver GPZ750 that I bought new in 1985.
This is a library picture:

I quite fancied a Turbo version finished in Fire Cracker red.
The bike had a huge speedo and a little rev counter.
I always thought that it should have been the other way around.
