Default wow super MPG

Driving along the motorway at 70 I reset the MPG display.
Few minutes later checked it and left it on and it did not drop below 70.4
even for a diesel that's good.

don't burst my bubble and tell me its wrong

My saloon only does late forties early 50's. Filled up the fuel and got to thinking, I can not recall the last time I filled up.

Mine you it had gone from 100 mpg to 70.4 so it may have settled in the forties or fifties in time.

oh well it was good while it lasted

There are times that my Omega does 999 MPG. Other times, 14 MPG!

My SD1 3.5 V8 used to do 999 mpg if we were going down hill. Real world mpg was around 21/24 around town and work 30/32 on a run mostly m/way.(Germany/France)

I once had a BMW 320 E21 2.0 straight six Auto that averaged about 15 mpg, I phoned an independent BMW tech guy for a tune-up /service and explained the reason why and he said 'I wouldn't bother mate, they're only supposed to get around 11mpg on average' . Liked that car a lot but just couldn't justify the running costs so sold it.
Having said that ... my old Jaguar 3.2 XJ wasn't great either, I managed to get that down to 9mpg when pushing on a bit but it would return about 32 on a run if driven very gently.

I was in a Prius doing 12MPG the other day.

I don't find it too difficult to get 38 to 40 MPG out of Tarquin on the combined cycle.

Next time, use the brake pedal i.e. take your foot off it whilst driving.
