Nastier than that, with a trumpet head high level exhaust that chucks fumes into the houses of parliament.

LOL Now that's just silly! everybody knows diesel is going to be 25 quid a gallon before much longer & the powers that be will only allow us to drive efficient electric vehicles like these.

I wonder what will be the point of high performance cars such as Ferraris Lambos or a Tesla model S in "ludicrous mode"? from 2022 onwards! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47715415

Might as well stop saving up for an Aston Martin Vanquish if its going to be limited to 70mph.

These proposed speed limiters look like window dressing to me - drivers will be able to override the restriction by means of a hi-tech process known as "pressing harder on the accelerator", so as to ensure the system doesn't interfere with overtaking. So it's really just a driver warning aid - more akin to a speed camera detector which saves you getting points. Still, can't beat a nice bit of outrage, bemoaning and mouth-foaming ... and if nothing else it will give observers of social commentary a good excuse to write words like "conniption" and "apoplexy", which are criminally underused these days.
Re cobalt - no it isn't great. However, I would suggest that many if not most of us browse the web and write our emails, our contributions here and elsewhere etc on a mobile phone, or a tablet, or a laptop with a battery - one containing cobalt. These have been in widespread use for quite some time - long before their use in electric cars started to become more widespread. Where was the social conscience then, and why weren't these concerns being expressed before it became relevant to motoring? Is the answer in the question? Presumably, the plan now is to get rid of these communications gadgets and never buy any of them again, so as to protect the workers in the Congo and elsewhere who are the sudden recipients of such solidarity. Before anyone takes such drastic action though, it might be worth mentioning that approximately 50% of global cobalt production is classified as "ethical" and is a by-product of copper and nickel mining. I'm also encouraged by initiatives like this and this.

The same as the point of owning one now whilst living in say central London. Yet, walk around Kensington and what sort of cars do you see parked up? I was in a family member's new hybrid car over the weekend with every possible gadget you can think of. I have to say that speed sign detectors and radar controlled braking to maintain distance from the car in front etc. works very well. Last edited by MSS; 1st April 2019 at 16:05.. |
