I used mtec bulbs on a previous car, brilliant colour to look at and great light output too.
I didn't keep the car for long after fitting them so cannot comment on life expectancy though. |

I had a look around the net for reviews of these when considering changing my bulbs. They dont seem very well regarded. They seem to just be normal bulbs with filters on them, so actually output less light than regular bulbs.
No headlight bulb should have a filter on it, and apart from anything else the weak blue tint will just be totally washed out by the light output of a headlight and wont have any effect on the colour.

The colour was not applied to the glass on the ones I had, and they did match the colour output of the xenon dipped beam bulbs perfectly

They make several different types. filtered and unfiltered.
I guess you got these.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MTEC-H9-65...item565130d522 No MTEC bulbs are E-Marked, so arent road legal. The ones above arent so blue that they attract attention, but dont seem to have great life. Around here the police have started doing checks on overly blue headlights and are making drivers remove them if not e-marked.

I find the main beam adequate on these cars, I have a pair of standard Osram Halogen bulbs fitted. I prefer the clear type bulb as the blue tinted versions reflect blue in the lens when not in use.
In the dipped beam Projector lens, bulb colour remains undetected. |

I do remember being suitably impressed though. |

I have a pair of blue tinted bulbs in the Fog lights. These are the later Valeo units with the deflector shroud in the lens, this combats the reflection of the blue in the reflector. Decent results with a white light.
Project Drive deleted the deflector in the 75 models, which left a naked bulb. |

I have these fitted in main beam, and am perfectly happy with them, they give good light coverage and at 4750k a nice white light.
They are tinted glass rather than painted, like the really cheap ones, so should last OK - it's not like main beam gets a lot of use, after all.
