Default Creaking Clutch Pedal

Might be of some help to somebody if you have a creaking/clicking clutch pedal. Have had this since I bought the car ( 2004 facelift 75) and was really detracting from the enjoyment of driving. After greasing and generally lubricating all the joints on clutch pedal/spring/master cylinder etc it still had the annoying noise. The pedal assembly is a plastic sub assembly and you will notice it is bolted to the bulkhead. In my supercar/racecar building/developing days we really tried to ensure that on assembly of items like this that there was a gasket or some form of material between to prevent the rubbing of painted panels etc. The 75 looks to be exactly that, plastic against paint. So I loosened the four nuts around the brake pedal and this allows the whole assembly to move outwards. I cut a price of very very thin soft plastic sheet, similar to a thick plastic sack and slid this between the lower edge of the plastic pedal assembly and the bodywork and tightened the assembly back up. There is not a single noise now and its just perfect. I hope this is of some help to somebody.

Thanks for the info, mine has been doing this since In the 2 years that I have owned it, hopefully I can now limbo dance under the dash to get to the top of the peddle assembly.

A quick spray with silicone spray or similar relieves you of this problem. Don't use WD-40 as it rots rubber.

Hi Thundercat, I didn't do top edge. I cut a piece about 15mm wide and slid it up under just the bottom edge. I tried all sorts of lubes etc but not really a long term fix, thanks though Pab appreciated.

my gears will only slip in when I fully depress the clutch all the way to where it hits the stopper or floor, if I leave a quarter of an inch space between the stopper or floor gears have a really hard time going in, what type of fluid goes in that little containter where the clutch pedal is? is this the only place where you put clutch fluid, arn't the clutch & brakes on the same fluid line & you top both up with DOT 4 under the hood? my clutch is not slipping i adjusted pedal freeplay and noticed the freeplay increased a bit again after a week, maybe the bolt got lose. car starts moving after only a bit of clutch pedal is released I think that's good right?

Sounds like you have the same problem as me, clutch master cylinder is nearly dead.
The fluid is DOT4 brake fluid. There is a rubber cup inside the reservoir after you take the cap off, you have to take this out as well or the fluid will just overflow without going into the reservoir. I used the rubber cup to pour in the new fluid, its perfect for the job.
You might get better results bleeding the clutch rather than just topping it up, it made mine a little better.

completely EMPTY is the container where the clutch pedal is, there is no rubber cup or boot, i stuck my finger a good inch in there no fluid my finger didnt' even get dirty no residue whatsoever, on my way to get some dot 4 and start toping it off, should i pour some fluid in and start pumping the pedal then some more fluid and pump the pedal some more?

Yes give it a go, but I think as it's empty you will need to bleed the system as there may be trapped air

I suspect if it is empty, you will have a serious leak somewhere (slave or master) and it will be obvious.

The bleed nipple is on top of the gearbox. There are two pipes going down into the g'box, one of which has the bleed nipple on the end. Look down between engine and battery. The other pipe is the pipe from clutch pedal to slave, which is hidden in the gearbox.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.
