Confirmed HGF :(
We'll had the dreaded confirmation that my ZT has HGF. After crying into my pillow for several hours I have made the decision to het her fixed. So taking her on Wednesday to be done. New belt, pump, gaskets, head bolts, oil an filter. It's clean and tidy and a just love driving it. Cannot wait till its done. Fingers crossed will have her back Saturday.

Are they skimming the head? It should be done otherwise you could be wasting your money if the head is warped?
Tom.

As has been noted before the head gasket normally goes due to lack of coolant etc. Make sure you find the cause before you undertake the work as it might happen again. A little investigating your engine should find why it blew.
Do get the head skimmed its not expensive and it means the job will be done correctly. Oh and make sure the garage buy the correct head gasket as if its a K series I believe the turbo gasket is different. Young Marinabrian on here has done hundreds why not drop him a pm for some advise? |

There is 2 types of gasket to use, the new multi layer and improved blue silicone one.
You have to measure the cylinder liners to find out which gasket to use. I did it wrong and it last lest than 4 weeks!

The various mobile HGF services that get recommended from time to time here and elsewhere carry a freshly skimmed head as a matter of course for each job. They take yours away and fit the skimmed one. These guys sort HGF 3 or 4 times a day, 5 days a week.
These would be worth a call as a starting point http://www.mg-rovermobilemechanics.com/ They did the same job to my KV6, they know there stuff. There are other companies offering a similar service |
