Default Dirt trap

Cleaning my car today, and I found a bit of a dirt trap. A bit is an understatement, the amount of dirt and grit that was hidden was insane.

HERE is an image of where all the dirt was hidden. This is on the front passenger side of the car, but the driver's side also held a lot of debris. (I'm removing those tar stains tomorrow, they've been annoying me since I bought the car.)

Mud, leaves, small twigs and grit was all hidden in here. Took about 10 minutes of pressure washing both sides to finally make it run clear and to remove all debris.

I've read about the jacking points on our cars having problems with rusting from the inside out - I assume that this dirt trap is probably a big contributor to that, due to it being virtually on top of the jacking point. Exactly where all this dirt is coming from I haven't a clue, but for anyone who's considering cleaning their car anytime soon, i'd definitely give that area a hose out, and maybe spray something into there to help prevent any rusting.

Found the same thing too on my 75, cleaned out most of what I could see by hand but still need to blast it all out with the pressure washer from both sides and then get plenty of ACF50 in there. (another job for the weekend).

Check the rear sills too, just in front of the wheels, behind the liner is a dirt trap. There is a grommet fitted, remove this & clean out as much as you can. Then apply loads of Dinitrol or whatever

There's another vital area that collects debris which rot and hold moisture just behind the wheel arch liners.

Ok - Ronnie got in just before me!

Pull the wheel arch liner out and clear all the muck out, after that its a simple job of blasting in the gap with a pressure washer.

I cleaned out loads of cobwebs and stuff when I removed the wheel arch liners on my ZT to fit new ones. I don't like to use a pressure washer too close so i usually just hose out along that gap.

It's that wing joint that tends to cause problems where front mudflaps are fitted and the dirt builds up behind them.

Yes. Found that little hide hole for rubbish and wetness just after I got my car. It was cleaned and two coats of Waxoyle were applied. Done every two years now.
