Default Great & not so great

Remember those accessories from the past....
Securon high level brake lights that you were lucky if they stayed stuck to the rear screen for more than a week.

Electric motors where you removed the winding handle on the door and placed the motor over the splines and screwed it to the door.

Then the deluxe version with remote switch

Vacuum operated wipers that slowed when you went uphill! Trumpets on the carb inlet that roared when you put your foot down but made the mixture so lean that it popped on over-run! Overdrive that you flicked a switch on the gear lever to operate. Radiator "blinds" for the winter that were pulled up on a cable but often refused to go back down!

Don't forget the headrests that slipped over the seat back. In hindsight, not such a bad idea.

And posh cars came with a vinyl roof as standard!

Worse still vinyl seats that you stuck to. In the hot sun they took ya skin off lol

Seem to remember back in the 1980's I think it was Gunsons who had a kit where you added uprated brake/sidelight bulbs in place of your standard ones then wired up their gizmo and this gave you normal brake/sidelights for most of the time but when foggy you flicked a switch and the sidelight element in the bulb went much brighter (to give you rear fog lights) and when you put foot on brake the brake element in the bulb went even brighter.
Advantage being you didn't have to bolt an aftermarket rear fog light on your car, leaving back of your car looking standard, but you still had rear fog light. Guess the higher wattage brake light when rear fog light was on fell foul of lighting laws or something as it never really caught on did it.
Think I have an old car magazine in loft somewhere with the Gunsons ad for this kit on the back page
