Wink Coolant pipe corrosion.

Dear all,
Mr Lates noticed this corroson on my ZTT front oil cooler pipe when he was changing the cam belts.

This is the pipe which sits under the rad and it was in a right sorry state. The silver is paint I put on a few weeks ago in an attempt keep it going untill I had time to change it.
Old and the New pipe.

The corrosion was quite deep in places.

It was easy to change once the car was on ramps with the undertray removed. I replaced the pipe clips with genuine Jubilee stainless steel ones.

I then vacuum filled the system using T-Cuts excellent Pela 6000 pump method. This is a fantastic idea and works perfectly so many thanks go to him. I added a vacuum guage and some inline valves so I can isolate the pump and turn on the new coolant flow.

Anyone who has a 2.5 V6 should check this pipe for corrosion as mine looked like it was about to leak any time soon.

You have been warned!
Ed.

I had exactly the same problem with my ZT. Lates also picked this up (a year ago) on service after i told him there was coolant loss. Where did you get your from? I have no end of trouble locating one.

The part number for the pipe is PFV000090 (for cars from 2001) which is available from rimmers for £32 delivered. It must have been in stock as it arrived in two days.

Very nice mods. Thanks for the comment. Can you tell us where you gort the valves? I couldn't find anything suitable at a realistic price.

I'm adding my quick find marker for this post #VRC# (Vacuum Refilling System) to help others see what you did.

If it's OK with you chaps I would like to add the picture above and the link to the valves to T-Cut's How To. As an option.

Ok with me.

I also added a vacuum guage, and found that the vacuum went to the top of the green section as all of the pipes collapsed. Although I am pleased I added this it is not essential but is a nice indication that all is working.

Got it from here
http://www.ccw-tools.com/product.asp?P_ID=25810

One of these for the T to feed the Guage is required.

Just spoken to Rimmer Bros as I suspect that one of the two sets of metal coolant pipes is leaking on my 2002 2.0 KV6, the chap confirmed that they are both on back order with no expected delivery date, he said it's basically down to the Chinese and when they decide to start producing them.

The two part numbers for these pipes are;

PFV000090 £31.49 inc

PCP102531 £118.15 inc

Looks like I'm going to have to try and fabricate my own......that should be fun?
