By the sound of it the 260 let you go by , the fastest auto diesel is 190 bhp and the 260 is 256 bhp . Being diesel you have a large slab of torque which gives you an advantage in the short term but if the ZT kept his foot in it he would have sailed by .

I quite like skodas, especially the superb and the octavia vrs. Superbs are still out of my price range, I'd quite like an auto estate. Heard a few stories about iffy vag auto boxes though.
Still like one though. |

I also like the Superb. The problem that the Superb now faces is that it is priced close to an E-Class. I'm not particularly keen on VAG DSG nor their diesel engines in general. |

Although looking at the stats a superb estate isn't that much bigger than a octavia estate, from what I remember anyway. |

My neighbours son works for Bentley and they use lease cars. He had a Skoda Supurb, and it was top of the line. It was rather lovely. The umbrella in the door compartment was a nice touch. I thought it was expensive though, simply because it cost a lot of money, but it was a very nicely appointed car. I did ask why he wasn't allowed to drive a Bentley, and he just looked at me and laughed.
He only has the car 6 months then gets to swap it if he wants. He kept the Skoda for a year before swapping it to a Seat 1.4 something or other and said it was a Hell of a lot more fun to drive, very economical and went like stink, which shocked us both for a 1.4. But the Supurb was really refined. |

My Superb Elegance Estate Auto was a seriously fast car. 170 diesel but it did shift and a lovely car to drive. I don't agree it's a rebadged VW, yes, the platform is common but the build quality IMO is far better. I'd not give a thank you for a VW.

I'm sure you realise that bhp is not the measure of a cars actual performance. The power to weight ratio is more significant, though saying that, the MG probably wins out there as the Kodiaq is quite a big therefore heavy car.
Also more important is the actual torque to the drive wheels. I expect the MG owner had a far greater respect for his cherised car than I have for the new Skoda, I don't mind red-lining it (you can select a manual gear change from the auto box). I also realise that most people who drive our MGRs are not boy racers at all but prefer the refinement of the marque. I do not expect he was giving it all he could, but it was fun seeing his face as I cheekily passed him at about 80mph and smiled at him, admiring his car of course Had I not had to leave at the next exit he may well have exacted his revenge on me. |
