I appreciate that, but there are 400 CEF stores in the UK, so for lots of members collection would possibly be an option bringing the cost down, so just giving options.

I like Steve's idea with the Screwfix plates, ideal to spread the load.

The approach I took on my tourer, was to weld a strip fashioned from 6mm flat plate drilled and tapped with an M8 hole in the centre and two M6 holes either side of centre , drilled out the spot welds securing the original captive nut, and fastened the repair plate from the back, by drilling two clearance holes to allow a couple of button head M6 socket cap screws, and welding through the original panel where it had torn originally.

A quick once over with a die grinder, and a flash over with an aerosol of green paint, and it was as good as new, both structurally, and aesthetically

It looked like it had not been touched once finished, one might say "OEM quality" but with improvements

Yes, it's quite surprising really, but it's good to see that even the poorest quality parts, and repairs can sometimes last longer than you think

Fortunate really for me that my £12 a pair drop links are set to see out the car 150k plus and counting, though it appears they've increased a little in price in the intervening five years since I fitted them........LINK

I had a really bad weld done on the problem area a couple of years ago. It's held but looks NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-. Sadly the CEF website lists all my local stores as out of stock of those suspension hangers, so maybe it'll be the Screwfix solution.

MY WINDOW BOOT door is always in use rather than the boot door way in and mine show no signs of fatigue at all?

i keep seeing this come up but is it certain built cars my 2002 is still rock solid on these and the gas arms still sweet?

so i don't get it, is it owners when new slamming them closed?

Weak struts are the answer, if the strut is weak then the forces exerted on the mount are reduced.

Keep yer nice new powerful struts 😂

I sourced 40 of the above plate last year shown in Arctic's Post #12 on this thread. Many were supplied to Tourer owners at my Breakfast meets.
Some were purchased by other members at £1 each plus £1 posted. Total £3.
I may be able to source some more but will drive 60 miles to collect them.
If I can get them, can Members let me know how many they need.

Peter.

It's sheer metal fatigue ? I'm not an over-vigorous boot slammer. I was gladdened in a way to find I wasn't the only one to face the issue. The boot door is a very heavy item (try supporting it without the gas struts connected!)
