sorry, it's taken me a couple of days to get a pic in the garage. The scuttle has lasted quite well since I did it. The actual cover panels were new ones from Rimmers at the same time.

Very smart Kelvin. Did you repaint the red areas under the scuttle near the outer drains & bonnet struts?

Some of them are close Dave but I can't really tell without seeing the actual product. For instance this one from China is roughly the right shape but the dimensions look wrong to me.

Here's ours from underneath.

Our seal is not as simple as it looks at first glance. It has a locking rib that runs all the way along - if you peel one back you'll see the rib behind the self adhesive strip.

The locking rib on the seal clips over the locating rib on the scuttle and that's what positions the two together properly all the way along. The self-adhesive strip is just there to stop the seal lifting off again.

So the locking rib is key.

Slightly clearer pic of seal profile.

A - Locking rib
B - adhesive strip

Underside again.

This piece of seal curled up and lost its flexibility after I soaked it in petrol to see the self-adhesive strip would dissolve.

Anyway, the pic shows it on the scuttle with the locking rib hooked over the locating rib - imagine a self-adhesive strip is pulling the seal down hard against the scuttle.

No, just washed and cleaned it all up when I had the scuttle panel off, could get in all the nooks and crannies with it off.

I did repaint some of the seam-sealer as the paint had come off.

I've had a proper look through these Dave.

I don't think the T-shaped ones from China are the right shape - the crossbar looks too narrow and it doesn't have that rib next to the adhesive strip.

Question Pinholes

Btw, are the pinholes in the centre wiper arm holes just for drainage?

Question

[QUOTE=MacRob;2850663][QUOTE=Blink;2850503]Ok, thanks everyone for the advice.

What did you do in the end? Did you use the gel or paint?

Neither - it's another scuttle. I was going to wait til spring before putting it on but I haven't got much choice now because I can't find a seal.
