Default chuffin car!!

after having my wheel bearing go last week I thought all should be ok once I've changed it , how wrong was I .... driving home from work tonight I looked in my rear view mirror to see clouds of white'ish smoke and the smell of burning oil , great!! im pretty sure the turbo oil seal has let go , on further inspection of the feed pipe from the intercooler to the throttle body I noticed a NOTICABLE film of oil , I've also noticed if I disconnect the turbo control solenoid the car doesn't really smoke at all which hints even more to me that its the turbo at fault NOT!!! LOL

When my intercooler pipe blew itself out of the socket under hard acceleration uphill on the way back from holiday in Devon - it proved to be clouds and clouds of black not white smoke if it helps with yr diagnosis m8

seems to be coming from the exhaust , when the boost control solenoid is disconnected it doesn't smoke as bad which makes me think turbo oil seal leaking under boost??? I've got Mr AA coming out to have a look , hopefully its covered under my garage repair cover...

well the aa came out earlier , what a total waste of time that was!! the bloke was about as helpful as t*ts on a chicken!!!

Didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know!! checked the oil level started it up and said , ooh it smokes abit ....and that was that , when I asked about my garage repair cover his answer was you could try a local garage but most of them don't wanna take warranty jobs on.. basically seemed to be dumbing down the aa warranty to get me to not bother claiming through them,,, Why offer a service which I have been paying for to turn up and play it down!!

think im going to get a recon turbo and fit it myself.. allot less agro than wasting time claiming through the AA.

Why play it down? to deter you from claiming on it.

Get it fixed under the AA warranty if it applies. That way if the repair goes wrong it's still covered until it's fixed properly. DIY it and you could end up well out of pocket. The aggro of making a claim is always a deterrent to actually making use of an insurance policy, the insurers count on it to save them paying out.

If you have the necessary skill, time, and funds to repair the car yourself, can I ask why you took out warranty type cover?

Why would garages not like to do warranty work? they can charge top prices for it.

for piece of mind batman..obviously! the skill and times not a problem , the whole reason for a warranty is to cover the cost but it seems the AA try to make it awkward or deter you from claiming which is easy money in the bag for them...
pointless them saying they'll cover mechanical items if all there really interested in covering is a flat battery!! well that's the impression I got anyways ..

True, but if the warranty covers someone else to do a repair then use it. There are several other members on here who have succesfully used AA warranty to get their cars fixed following a breakdown. It may be worth posting a new thread asking for advice on how to claim successfully.

you can do lot worse than to listen to hundreds of years of accumulated experience and perhaps per chance learn something from it...
