Kv6 oil seals
Evening gents.
I need to inform you all with the KV6 engine that I have now come across two of these engines which have decided to "let go" the front cam shaft oil seal blanking caps. One of which is a member on here who with a pretty new aged, low mileage ZT with no history of engine works.Spotted purely by luck after going under the bonnet to connect pad wiring. One we have seen failed 5 weeks after the belts have been replaced.A local dealer refitted a new seal twice now and both have fallen out again.I am awaiting feedback to let you guys know if there is a solution. I am not telling you guys to cause any concerns, just be observant when mooching about under the bonnet, as I have not found the root cause as of yet. |

Daft as a brush yes, Barking mad no.
I always have a look under the front whenever I'm parked on some clean tarmac. As long as there are two small puddles of fresh water I'll be happy, anything else will be investigated immediately. One of the things that does concern me is having the underbelly shield, that can catch leaking fluids and mask any potential problem for a while. I'll be out under the bonnet tomorrow scrutinizing every nook and cranny now. Thanks |

Lates
My experience with oil seals blowing out is related to industrial gearboxes and pressure build up as it warms up and not being able to vent because of a blocked breather. Thinking about this, if the car is low mileage, is it possible there is a sludge problem in the breather pipes, which as we know are very small bore, and in this weather, and standing around, oil sludging is a problem especially on cheaper semi-synthetic oils. |
