Maybe it had a crash on the nearside or rear? It might have had some mechanical failing?

It is unusual for a serviceable car to be taken off the road for no reason

If I had to guess I would go with the Plenum filled with water. I know that thats what happened to the man I sold my Blue tourer to with my private plate still on it, despite being told at the time of sale, and given a spring rodding tool with the car, failed to rod it. He had a lovley drive round driveway lined with trees, which the car was parked under. You can guess the rest. I believe the car still sits on his drive some nine years later. The really strange thing was he made his money as a fortune teller, charging groups of women £60 pounds a head in a group reading or £100 for an indivual reading.

Thats a really sad story. Have you tried getting the car back?
