Drastic mot failure

I have a 1.8t and today it failed the mot on emissions. High revving produced blue smoke and an oily smell. I'd like to keep the car but I have to decide whether to go for a used engine swap or replacement piston rings, liners etc. Any advice welcomed!!

Could it just be the turbo Don?

If your Turbo is new it could be worn valve seals, piston rings

- there is an excellent engine repair company near you in Hull on Lincoln Street on Bankside. - and the owner knows the 1.8T and V6 very well. I would be tempted to have a word with them first.

When he looked at my engine he immediately said "never seen an engine cover like that on a 1.8T " as i have a non standard MG7 turbo engine cover - which said to me he knows the cars. Also after the job the coolant refill was spot on as well.
