Drastic mot failure
I have a 1.8t and today it failed the mot on emissions. High revving produced blue smoke and an oily smell. I'd like to keep the car but I have to decide whether to go for a used engine swap or replacement piston rings, liners etc. Any advice welcomed!!

If your Turbo is new it could be worn valve seals, piston rings - there is an excellent engine repair company near you in Hull on Lincoln Street on Bankside. - and the owner knows the 1.8T and V6 very well. I would be tempted to have a word with them first.
http://enginerepaircentre.co.uk/ When he looked at my engine he immediately said "never seen an engine cover like that on a 1.8T " as i have a non standard MG7 turbo engine cover - which said to me he knows the cars. Also after the job the coolant refill was spot on as well.
