I dont know how to take any covers off or even where to look but the belt visible from behind the dip-stick definitely rotates when trying to start up. It also rotates when the car is in gear and I rock the car back and forth.

Hello Simon,
As Stocktake has said, what you have observed is the ancillary drive belt which drives the alternator, power steering and air conditioning compressor. Removing the left-hand bank rear timing belt cover is probably the easiest way to determine whether the front belt has broken by looking for rotation when you turn the starter.
