Our village petrol shop (ex Austin Rover dealer) and mot station just recently closed due to the owner’s retirement and the fact that his kids wanted nothing to do with a 90 year old thriving business, sold everything iron mongery, oils, most stuff for the motorist or farmer. Has ripped the heart right out of the village it has. Open 6 days a week 8-7… His mark up on fuel, wait for it…..2 or 3p and he was regarded as being expensive by some, some had the nerve to put a fiver in and then drive to Tescos to fill up. It was a most ressasuring place driving home from work in the depths of a dark Scottish winters evening seeing the lights on and being able to fill up. When filling my tank at his place there was about Fivers difference compared to the majors which i thought was a small price to pay for having this facility on its doorstep.

Garage and shop was a goldmine of old world bits, and great quality UK made fittings, boxes and boxes of old stuff all gone to auction. I was given free dibs on some things which included an mot emission tester of all things. Sorry I’ll stop now getting all sentimental about the whole thing.

I think it was instigated by an unwise comment by the Road Haulage Association which said that there could be fuel shortages. The media, naturally, reported this. Queues then formed.

I'd suggest that in this case responsibility lies with the RHA (or whoever speculated publicly) and not the media.

Why would they be held responsible? It was the headline makers and the headline readers that made an issue from.something that didnt exist at that time. The rha suggested a possibility (from.what you have written) to gee up the politicians to get hgv licences moving.

The media misreported it, hyping the headline. The public then reads the headline only.

At the end of the day, it has probably done the potential.hgv drivers a favour, by speeding things along. Just like during the pandemic, there would.have been no panic without the ignorant and the lazy.

Great Yarmouth yesterday- no fuel at Sainsburys, Asda, Jet station, BP station! Managed to get £35 worth at a village fuel station when on fumes! That'll keep me going for ages. Saw 5 gallon drums of old cooking oil coming out of the chippy on the way home!

On the way to the Nano meet yesterday i passed 6 petrol stations all but the one BP station had petrol and diesel, the forecourts were quite empty maybe two three cars on each, a couple had a tanker on site either just delivering or had finished delivering fuel.

I have noted that BP seem to be the ones that run out first then also seem to take a long time getting more fuel around our area? and are the most expensive £1.49 per litre for B7, the BP Ultimate Diesel is i think £1.61 litre.

I notice th fuel shortage is mainly in th south. Do they "need" more fuel or is th greed gene more prevalent there.. Also maybe if HS2 was started in Leeds maybe they would av run out of money buy Watford gap... That could av levelled things up a bit Boris.

Don't tell them about the fuel supply up north.

Some people will be driving up north to fill up!
