I fitted an inline thermo housing in the top rad pipe today. I found that it took forever(20mins!) on an in-town drive to reach half but then would fluctuate down again.

On a motorway run it sits bang on half.

Is this fluctuation in town due to location of thermo?

The new stat is either leaking or opening too early.

I fitted a circoli inline stat last winter and saw almost no difference with to without. On figuring out how to get the diagnostic mode in place it was clear that the car still - albeit only slightly - running cold. I have just fitted a stat from DMGRS and it seems significantly better, albeit only on a short test drive, but I'd not seen 87 before.

Get the display into diagnostic mode, but I think you'll find as I did that your stats are both leaky. The one from DMGRS is obviously of much better quality.

I have to say, I have noticed with the ones I sell I've noticed temperature does seem to hold well - I've used other brands in the past on my 75s and noticed some don't perform as well.
The Gates item I fitted on my first 75 seemed to hold well, but the item I had from ECP a while ago (not sure of the brand) did take longer to warm up and didn't hold it quite as high. All were 89 degree items to my knowledge.

I tried two of the circoli ones from ECP and found them useless. Never above 83 and fluctuated. In the end plumped up £100 for a genuine one fitted. Well worth it.Sits at 87c.

Hi, I also have one of these in-line housings fitted with the 88 degree stat. supplied.

With the on board temp. diagnostics displayed, mine builds to 91 degrees and then opens, dropping to 84 and then building again to 89 and continues cycling in this way.On the motorway I have seen this cycle between 93 and 83 degrees but the temperature gauge always stays at the 9 o clock position.

My warm-up time is less than 5 minutes or 2 miles, but I have a FBH with a manual switch which I always use at start-up.

Hope you find this helpful in determining if yours is faulty.

Ok.that would mean its faulty. I had a suspicion when fitting as coolant was passing through the thermo.It should have been shut and stopped coolant flow.

I fitted one of these well over 12 months ago and all was fine to start with but then the temp via OBD was falling, so i replaced it with a 92 degree stat in the housing and it has made a big difference.

Temp now gets to between 100 and 103 before falling to 89 and then cycling again, warm up time is much better and cabin is toasty !

I had never seen the temp in the 90s before, let alone reaching 3 figures, but the temp gauge still doesnt budge from 9 o'clock
