What have you been offered? The Message Centres or the whole cluster pack?
As far as I know, not all V8's had the message centre, just SEs - some non SEs had them fitted without the operating stalk, some just the regular info centre with lights...I think. Of course the V8 instruments (well rev counter anyway) will be specific to them too because of the lower redline.

Does your instruments have a message centre that shows MPG, range etc?

V8's don't show MPG in the message center (I think it would be too demoralising!) they show mph instead

Yes - the V8 info does not include range nor mpg....basically because we'd all be weeping uncontrollably..!! Instead the noise just puts a big smile on our faces...
It replaces this info with mph readout....

Technical reason for the V8's not showing MPG or range is due to the engine management not having data reporting for fuel consumption (and therefore without fuel consumption you cannot calculate your range). Instead MG-Rover substituted the two with a digital speed readout.
