Double din head unit

Does anyone know if a standard double din head unit will fit our cars? as I am thinking of fitting an after market unit which has DVD / TV / Sat Nav etc all built in, (alot cheaper than a BMW set up.)

If it will fit would I need a face plate of some sort?

A standard one won't you need a BMW one which costs the earth.
