Default Counterfeit Airbags

This just appeared on our local news - so I am not sure this has got nationwide coverage.

The guy was arrested just down the road from me in Blandford Forum. Other arrests in Poole it seems.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-35602996

The article states Honda - but our local TV report indicated a far wider issue - not sure if it was simply Honda that first tested the airbags and found them to be fakes and so set the investigation going. If so - it could apply to other makes.

Wonderful! what some people will do to make a grubby buck

I remember a TV program a while back about counterfeit parts coming from the far east, airbags, brake discs and pads.

I remember somthing a while back related a product that was counterfeit Ford brake pads, out of Asia, turned out that they were made with sawdust mixed in the pads and wouldn't stop a car ? I wonder why ?
Also heard of a microphones which were branded as an expensive USA built brand, right paper work, box etc, looked identical but when opened up they had used nuts to add wieght inside the mic as they were using lite crappy condensors which weighed nothing like the real thing.

I certainly does me - and that is why I buy parts from reputable traders on here, Rimmers etc - I do not "buy the cheapest" off ebay.

I liked what the newsreader said, "the airbag did not deploy properly", not only that, it blew the whole bag off its mounts and the bag hit the dummy in the face.

In a real crash your face would be where the flash from the explosive (ie gas generator) is and you would be badly burnt as well as burying your face in the steering wheel.

Bit like the fake lifejackets being made in Turkey, no doubt to be sold to migrants - the most likely people to need them thanks to the greedy traffickers overloading the boats.

I really can't understand the mentality and inhumanity of the people who do this.

yes...but you say that, even reputable traders have been caught out by the fakers, buying stock they think is genuine, only to be told by trading standards that there fake it was on fake britain that high street stores were caught selling coats (unaware though) with 'real fur' on there hoods,as it worked out cheaper than artifitle fur to produce.
