Default Mini R53 handbrake mod

I’m having a problem with doing this cable mod, I’ve got as far as trying to connect the cables, but I reckon it’s too short, have I got the wrong cable, geezer said it was from an R50/53, but I’m having a hell of a job with it, I’ve done everything right so far, I’ve got the cable changed over in the handle and tried to hook up the wheels but it simply won’t go. I’ve even wound the shoes back to fully retracted! What is the right cable? I have bought another cable but it’s not here yet.

You are using a Mini compensator - the only reason to change the cable is that the Mini compensator needs to use the shorter cable.

I've fitted the Mini compensator complete with cable and it slotted in fine.

I did compare the rover cable and compensator with the mini one, and the mini was a little shorter.

I found the cable on the one I’ve got was longer than the rover one, but with the compensator added it was overall shorter.

It has to be from an R50 Bini. The R52 and later types have a different bracket, and as you say is too short.

You need to make sure it is the top version shown in this image.

A quick search on eBay suggests THIS is the correct one, however, ask the seller first to confirm, explaining that it must be the one shown. I was sent an incorrect one. The seller had done nothing wrong so was under no obligation to do anything about it.

Do you know what years the R50 runs from as I want to do a Mini mod, is it 2001 to 2008?

thanks

No, but a wikipedia search would bring it up. But there is a link in my post for one that is apparently correct. Search on ebay for R50 mini handbrake and that should bring them up, then check the image and ask the seller if it is the same as the image, explain also that it is not for a Bini, and that it must be that style, before buying.

I did a big how to on the Mini R53/52/50/ back in 2015 but alas all the photos were swallowed up by PB and up to now have not had time to replace them

the later type Mini will also fit but they are shorter & not as smooth in action.

Ok, so I’m right, I have the wrong one, it’s the bottom one in the picture I have, but I have ordered now the top one, or so I hope! It was the guy on eBay who swears they are both the same.
