Now a remapped ECU, that's a different matter
Is there any way of them actually telling if you have a remapped ECU?

I asked someone the other day and was still told I should inform the insurance company (which of course I can't do because I can't have any mods at my age)

Not if carried out correctly.
T4 doesn't spot it (*checked mine on Big Russ's)
Rolling Road would be a dead giveaway.

~~ I would not of course recommend this course of action to any one on the Forums though.

In a word no,i've never heard of an insurance company RR a car and even if they did how could they prove that YOU had had it remapped.

Depends who you asked,if it was a modifying company then they would be obliged to tell you that to cover themselves.

Anyone come across a fully comp insurer for Rover 75 owners they'd strongly recommend ? (or better than 1st direct)

I believe an insurer would stick me in the "middle aged" category. Have just over 20 yrs of driving under my belt and lucky enough never to been in an driving accident.

Cheers

Pipe.

I'm led to believe that they still have a duty to cover any third party claims that may result. They might just fight against paying out on your own. (Don't count me on this but it's what I've been told.)

Now that is an interesting senario, if you have purchased a car and have no knowledge about a re-map, where does this leave you??

Also if you have been in a shunt and the car cannot be tested on a RR due to the damage, heaven forbid, of course!

Are the insurers supplied with full spec details by the car showroom at the time of the original sale ?

Churchill (and Admiral) asked me what extras had been fitted. Although all are factory fitted Rover extras, - sunroof, powerfolds, personal line leather, traction control, Harmon Kardon - they all count - as do Rover's Meteor alloys. However, I assumed the Sat Nav was standard on my model.

They are all extras - as opposed to remapping which is a modification. In conversation, Churchill said they would not accept any modifications whatsoever - including non-standard exhaust or special sound systems. I think large wheels are definitely a mod. Churchill subsequently relented on my remap (as did Admiral) when i told them it was a Rover mod to convert to the 131 bhp version of the CDT. Admiral's policy states it is my obligation to inform them of any modifications made at any time.
