Ovoid you using Castrol Magnatec in K1.8 engines, noisy valve gear has been complained of.

Personally i would pay the extra and get Mobil 1 ..sheer quality.

Thats the price it should be, its rubbish oil. Castrol dont deserve a good rep, its oils are very poor.

A really surprisingly good oil is ACDelco. Its American, the mainstay of GM for many years and well regarded by the classic scene.

Its £19.99 on eBay for 5 litres (with free delivery) of 5w40 fully synth that meets the tough Mercedes spec.

Alternatively OPIE oils sell Fuchs Titan GT1 which also meets tough specs and is good quality. Its about £28 for 5 litres.

i never understand this, didn't MG Rover recommend Mobile 1 for these cars, so why would anyone want to use anything else?

Because rovers reason for recommending it was nothing to do with it being the best. It was because mobil would have bung rover cheap oil in exchange for a recommendation. Rover were very lazy in their oil testing and recommendation.
