Default 5 pics, 2 probs, 1 nice one.

Have been very gently poking around the new Rover since acquired two weeks ago now. Have replaced air and pollen filter, cleaned (blocked) plenum drains and made the access hole for the nearside plenum drain rodding. Psyching myself up for the rear three spark plugs on the V6 next.

Meanwhile a few pics. 1st is general view of nearside windscreen area with ECU rmoved from its pocket to allow easier access for removal of pollen filter.

2nd is one dirty pollen filter; note soaking at bottom right hand corner due to blocked water in plenum.

3rd. Suspect linked to first two. But can anyone tell me what the gungy white marks on the inside bonnet covering are likely to be/have been?

Whilst checking the battery position for the very first time took a moment to realise what the yellowish material was at the bottom of the battery cover; (thought at first it was foam insulation material or summat). Blade of screwdriver sank approx 1" into soft sulphate deposit instead. Presume battery has been cooking up this at some point in its lifetime. Not pretty.

4

Pretty picture to finish with. The classy Rover with its spiritual cousin (Rover 623 before she got sold) in the background.

Any tips or pics on removal of rear three spark plugs on V6 gratefully received.

Cheers

If you're doing the rear plugs remove the Wipers,Scuttle Panel,Plenum Covers Sound-Proofing and Metal Panel where the ECU wiring harness passes through and you'll have more than enough room to do them, and you wo'nt be working blind.

Bearing in mind the state of the Air filter, were you getting any smells etc inside of car?

No obvious smells but clearly due to it's filthy state and blocked drains it would not have been long IMHO until it would seriously have become a problem.

For peace of mind have replaced with the pollen and odour filter, (mmm only once of these left said the man at Rimmers). They are however approx. 3 x the price of standard pollen filter but as still in the honeymoon period (with the car)...because she's worth it etc...Went ahead.

Cheers

Expensive air freshener then! You could use the 'california scents' very strong and last forever imho
