![]() Years ago I used to run my diesel Transit van and L reg 1.9 Rover on 70% used cooking oil in summer, less in winter. Yes I did reg with Customs and excise but now you can use oil tax free so my question is.
Is it safe to add virgin [new unused ] and therefore clean oil to diesel and use in my ZT ? Although cooking oil has jumped up in price to £1 ltr it is now viable to use as fuel once again now diesel is over £1.50 ltr. |

![]() Hi,
I have run my Musso on neat SVO for years with no problem. 100% in summer and 90/10 % in winter. It has a direct injection mercedes engine. Not all vehicles especially more modern are suitable. Also the type of pump you have is a factor. Good Luck Phil |

![]() Thanks Phil, just what I wanted to hear "Good luck" ha ha in other words go try it and let us all know so we can !!
Humm think I will put some in my old diesel 45 first. I have heard of some horror stories about people trying oil in newer cars but like you do I smell Shoeguns and Discoveries as they trundle by oooozing one of each and some scraps !! |

![]() I seriously doubt the m47r engine will run on cooking oil. most cars with ECU's wont run on it. and the word is that the common rail engines don't like it either...
![]() My ZX has an old XUD engine and that prefers running on cooking oil., and is doing so as we speak.. ![]() ![]() ... |

![]() Thats what I did 1st get an old 5 gall water boiler, heat the oil so the water boils off then run through an old sock. After that mix with diesel then gravity feed the mix through a cheap diesel filter. i bought an old filter mounting from a scrappy off a old rover and filters were realy cheap but did clog up quickly. However that saved the vehical filter from clogging. On the transit I always carried a spare as you got notice of filter failure with poor acceleration, filter could be changed in two mins and no tools needed.
John91919 I couldnt find anything about Rovers but very interesting , thanks. |

![]() One more thought, what do you do with your waste engine oil ? Well the transit would run on that too, out of the sump into the tank.
