It’s a E90. I’ll check again.

No key hole by the number plate lights. Are you saying I remove the light to expose the key hole?

A possible solution.
Just been on an American forum. Key hole was deleted 2008. Mine is 2009.
Remove glove box and see a junction box. Bring forward to allow access to a 12 pin plug at the rear. Put a 12 volt supply to the pin #12 which should be a grey wire with green stripe. Boot should then pop open.
I have to go to work tonight so this will be a job for tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

I’m delighted to say the method worked.
Taking it all apart is the hard bit but the grey and green wire was indeed going into #12.
Scraped a tiny piece of insulation off the wire and simply dabbed it with a 12v supply. Heard the boot open and I was back in.
New battery fitted and the car runs fine. To think that up until 2008 there was a boot lock fitted for using the key. Cost cutting does create problems but then the main problem was me closing the boot without thinking.
Thanks everyone
