IF you look at the Genuine MG rover boot replacement kits for the lower arm boots, they have a plastic tool, which is a cone that you slide the spring clip down, and over the correct section. https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...ad.php?t=29310 |

Oh and btw... not all of them even have spring clips... a lot of them I see the boots are bonded, which is probably why they fail so fast.

Encouraged by the suggested link above, i managed to fashion a fitting tool from the protective cover supplied by Unipart. Dremmel it down in diameter so that when you close it up tight it is a snug fit on the joint casing.
There is also a handy lip on the protective cover, so slip the spring clip over there and you can then use that as a levering point when refitting. Hopefully you can see what i mean. I cant be sure all suppliers provide a protective cover, but unipart do. As it happens, unipart also supply the joints already fully filled with grease so in the end i found it unnecessary work, but at least now i know its there. |

If i have learnt anything from all this, it is that if you have good drop links with just perished rubber boots, then replace the boots, because finding decent new parts is quite a challenge. 15 years on factory fitted links, i only replaced them because of the boots splitting. Replacements lasted barely a year.

I have noticed that the boot on the original droplink seems to be fitted without a fixing ring. They are also going Tommy cotton, so before I save for future use, I will have to get some boots to fit them. I have tried to find them on the many websites but to no avail. Has anyone got any ideas where I could get any from to fit the original Delphi links please?
